Nick Cave’s Sound Suits

Nick Cave, an artist and educator working out of Chicago, is the creator of full body “soundsuits” which are made from layers of metal, plastic, fabric, hair, found objects, and other things that rub together to make noise. Many of Cave’s soundsuits are politically/socially inspired and have deeper meanings than just looking fantastic and making rustle sounds.

Nick Cave is an amazing fiber/textile artist who was once a professional dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance theatre!!! He now teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. All of you goth/prog rock kids better open your minds up because great artists are allowed to share the same name!!!!

This man’s creativity and exuberant inventive spirit are a revelation and an inspiration to all aspiring artists!
    BRAVO Nick Cave!

  7. Audrey says:

I saw these yesterday at Art Basel in Miami- truly phenomenal.

And yes, shockingly enough, some talented people in the world share the same name.

But must also rebutt Amy, and say Nick Cave (the musician) is anything but goth/prog rock. Check him out before you throw a label around that’s so low rent and offensive in comparison to the amazing breadth of his contribution to music.

Oh Shit … The Monthly magazine really screwed up there research on the Nick Cave article …. Six pages on the Australian musician included with images of the chicago textile designer Nick Caves images of Sound Suits … I was surprised to see singing Nick was into textile design as well as his music … At least it introduced me to these amazing sound suits … ta sloppy researchers …
