Pagophones, Vibrating Ice Bars
Another water instrument created by Steve Mann (see hydraulophone) from Ontario Canada. A pagophone, meaning “ice sound” in Latin (similar to xylophone or “wood sound”), consists of ice bars of different lengths. The shorter the length of the bar, the higher the pitch. Acousitc pickups can be attached to the bars themselves or inside the mallets.

Wij wilden voor ons project waarbij we een xylofoon gaan maken graag weten hoe de verhouding tussen de stefen moet zijn.
Is het zo dat als een staaf de helft is van een ander, de frequentie 2 keer zo hoog is en dus een octaaf hoger?

I am no expert, but yes, cutting a bar in half should shift the note one octave higher. Remember to cut the bars to have a little extra length so you can hand tune them to perfection using a sander.
